Rugby World Cup Fever hit’s NZ
The promotion has been launched for the biggest event ever to hit NZ, the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Yawn!
Have a look at the ad and decide for yourself, there certainly seems to be plenty of emotive engagement within the ad industry, but will it do the job with the ticket-buying public? http://www.stoppress.co.nz/news/2010/03/rugby-world-cup-puts-the-feelers-out/
Having been interviewed for the role of Marketing GM a few years back (one of over 90 applicants!), it was clear that this would be a very difficult marketing excercise because all the money making opportunity was held by the IRB and RWC has only one channel to get ROI for tax paying NZ – ticket sales.
So who’s up for paying $100 to go and see Nigeria play Taiwan in Invercargill?
Personally we’ll be watching it from the sunny deck of the Broadwater Tav. We’ll miss being part of it and we’ll be cheering on the AB’s too – just more likely to be marveling at the spectacle and wishing all NZ businesses every opportunity to make hay while the sun shines.
